    Austrian Science Talk 2008 in Chicago

    The Austrian Science Talk 2008 took place on October 4 at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago. Organized by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, brainpower austria, ASciNA and the OST, the topic of this year's Talk was "The Magic Triangle of the Future: Research, Industry and Education". The event provided an excellent opportunity for networking with other scientists and representatives from Austria. Please view the official agenda in English and German.

    Roundtable Discussion: “eCommerce, Prediction Markets and Data Mining: How Technology impacts Business Decision Making”

    Technology has changed the world we live in. Online auctions have turned garage sales into worldwide events; prediction markets anticipate the outcome of elections; and social networks enable us to detect fraud and catch terrorists. On June 18, 2008, the Office of Science & Technology (OST) at the Embassy of Austria, and ASciNA (Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America) hosted a round table discussion with Dr. Wolfgang Jank, Associate Professor of Decision, Operations and Information Technologies at the Robert H.     ERA-Link meeting with EU Commissioner Janez Potočnik

    The EU Commissioner of Science and Research, Janez Potočnic, met with European scientists in Washington, DC, on February 14, 2008. The meeting and following lunch reception took place at the Embassy of Austria. Commissioner Potočnic introduced the European Research Area and Seventh Framework Program (FP7), a 2007-2013 funding initiative to advance research and technology development, create jobs, and increase competitiveness and quality of research in the EU.     President of European University Association (EUA) at European Career Fair 2008

    On the occasion of the European Career Fair 2008 (ECF) held at the Massachusets Institute of Technology (MIT), the OST, ASciNA, and brainpower austria organized a meeting between Austrian scientists and Professor Georg Winckler, president of the EUA, on February 1, 2008. Professor Winckler, who is also rector of the University of Vienna, spoke about recent developments and recruitment issues in the Austrian university system.
