Roundtable Discussion: "International Capital Flows and Financial Crisis" Ten years ago millions of people in East Asia were forced into unemployment and poverty due to the largest financial crisis since the Great Depression. The global financial system was affected tremendously and the impact is still evident today. On November 13, 2007, the Office of Science and Technology (OST) at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC, and Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America (ASciNA) hosted a roundtable discussion with Dr. Anton Korinek, assistant professor of economics at the University of Maryland on "International Capital Flows and Financial Crisis". Austrian Science Talks 2007, Los Angeles and New York Learn about recent developments and opportunities in the Austrian S&T landscape by participating in this year's Austrian Science Talks, organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT). The event provides the ideal platform for one-on-one discussions with key players of the Austrian S&T community as well as decision makers in the field of research and technology policy. Meeting between Austrian Chancellor Gusenbauer and Austrian scientists, Boston, MA During his visit to the United States, the Austrian Federal Chancellor, Dr. Alfred Gusenbauer, met with over 50 Austrian scientists in Langdell Library at Harvard Law School on September 27. He took the opportunity to present Austrian scientists with an overview of the Austrian government's priorities in the field of R&D, and to exchange views on the subject in a lively discussion with the Austrian scientific diaspora. Dinner Reception and NIH Visit: Austrian Federal Minister of Health A delegation accompanying the Austrian Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Andrea Kdolsky, visited Washington, DC, in late September 2007. A dinner reception was held on September 23, 2007 at the Austrian Ambassador's residence in Washington, DC, where the minister also met with Austrian scientists from the Greater DC area working in the fields of health and health management. On the afternoon of September 24, the minister visited the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. NIH is the biggest supporter and producer of biomedical research in the US. After a tour of the campus, Minister Kdolsky met with several Austrian scientists doing research at the NIH Clinical Research Center (CRC) and also visited one of their laboratories.
