Peter Ertl is currently a senior scientist the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Adjunct Associate Professor of Nanobiotechnology at the University of Life Sciences Vienna.
He joined the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, where his research involves the development of lab-on-a-chip systems for biomedical applications. Ertl is also a lecturer at the Technical University Vienna and the BOKU, where he recently habilitated in the field of Nanobiotechnology (2011). Prior to this, he co-founded RapidLabs Inc. in Ontario, Canada, in 2003 where he worked as Director of Product Development until 2005. He was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar (2011/2012) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley and the head of the ASciNA Chapter Austria since 2006.
Initially, Ertl studied Food Sciences and Biotechnology at the University of Life Sciences and Natural Resources Vienna (BOKU), Austria. He then entered a Ph.D. program in Chemistry at the University of Waterloo in 1997. Following the completion of his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (2001), he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California at Berkeley.
