Fulbright-Schuman Program for Lecturing: Call for Applications

ERC Starting Grants 2008 Call for Proposals
The European Research Council announced the 2008 Call for Proposals for ERC Starting Grants for early career independent researchers of any nationality.
Research fields: any field of science, engineering & scholarship. Submission deadlines are October 29 (Physical Sciences and Engineering), November 19

EUR 35 million for the establishment of new Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes!
The Ludwig Boltzmann Society announced a call for proposals for the establishment of new Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as Life Sciences. Applications can be

Workshop "Internationalization of Research and Graduates Studies and its
Implications in the Transatlantic Context," Georgia Tech, Atlanta, 17-18
November 2008
The workshop is taking place under the French Presidency of the European
Union and is co-organized by the Delegation of the European Commission, the
French Embassy to the US together with Georgia Tech and the National Science
Foundation. It will provide a forum for research leaders and policy-makers
at universities and research institutes, as well as scientists with
experience of research abroad to discuss issues related to researchers’
mobility and transatlantic collaborations. For more information, please

Austrian Science Talk 2008 in Chicago
The Austrian Science Talk 2008 took place on October 4 in the
Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago. Organized by the Federal Ministry for
Transport, Innovation and Technology, brainpower austria, Ascina and the
OST, the topic of this year's Talk was "The Magic Triangle of the Future:
Research, Industry and Education". The event provided an
excellent opportunity for networking with other scientists and

Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler, Austrian Scientist of the Year 2007
The Office of Science & Technology and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Washington, D.C., commiserate on the loss of Austrian philologist and literary scientist Professor Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2008. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The planned lecture “Austrian Literature after the Fall of the Iron Curtain: A Diagnosis” with Professor Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler on October 1, 2008 was cancelled.
