How it all began
It is an interesting fact that the Bologna Process actually had its
beginning in Paris. On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of
Sorbonne University, in May 1998, the ministers of education of France,
Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom decided to commit themselves to
stepping up transnational cooperation in higher education. They signed
a document called the “Sorbonne Declaration.” Little did they
know that the cornerstone for what would be called the “European Higher
Education Area” had been laid
