Holzapfel is professor of biomechanics at TU Graz, adjunct professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, and visiting professor at the University of Glasgow. He is the founder and co-editor of the international journal Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology (Springer-Verlag), author of 80+ peer-reviewed research articles and five books. His research embraces experimental and computational biomechanics; analyses of growth and remodeling; arterial mechanics (atherosclerotic plaques, aneurysms); continuum mechanics; materials theory; nonlinear finite element methods; fracture and material failure. He has received several awards, most recently the Research Award 2008 of the State of Styria for Simulation and Modeling. Contributions
