logo_2015_web_small.jpgThe Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna) is the largest research and educational institution in Austria in the fields of technology and the natural sciences. Not only that, but it is also part of the UNESCO international cultural heritage, as it is located in the heart of a flourishing cultural metropolis with its unique urban atmosphere and particular charm. The selection of this inner-city location was therefore a starting point for our development project "TU Univercity 2015." We undertook this project for our employees, students, alumni, and international partners, for whom we developed the historical University of Technology into a modern city campus, and for all those who benefit from our research.

Almost 200 years of research and teaching have left their marks on the buildings of the TU Vienna. Many areas had to be restored and adapted in order to meet the standards for the recently established university autonomy. In 2006, having been offered an alternative by the city of Vienna - to build a "new TU" in the Flugfeld Aspern area on the outskirts of Vienna - around 90 percent of those affiliated with TU Vienna voted for the current inner-city location, and for its further development to meet the requirements of a 21st-century university establishment. The development project "TU Univercity 2015," with a budget of about €300 million and a total built-up area of more than 69 acres, was born in this way.
