Gerhard Pohl is founder and chairman of the working group on the history of chemistry within the Austrian Chemical Society.

His specialties are biophysical chemistry and history of science. Pohl's professional experience includes research and teaching positions at the Universities of Basle, Switzerland; San Francisco, California; Konstanz, Germany; and Linz, Austria. A frequent guest lecturer at several European universities, he published over 70 publications on various areas in chemistry and four books on teaching chemistry. Pohl has organized a number of international meetings, conferences and symposia. He received several awards, including the Karlson lecturer award of the German Chemical Society in 2003.
