Josef Hochgerner is the founder and scientific director of the ZSI (Zentrum für Soziale Innovation; Center for Social Innovation) in Vienna, Austria. He is also a professor of sociology at the University of Vienna. His main topics in research, teaching, and practice: innovations concerning work, learning, and living in the globalized information society; development and usage of technology and knowledge.

From 2001 until 2005 he was the president of the Austrian Society for Sociology.

Hochgerner holds a master’s degree in economics, as well as a doctoral degree in sociology.
