Austrian team of TU Vienna participating at Solar Decathlon 2013

Congratulations to the team of the TU Vienna, representing Austria for the first time at this competition organized by the US Department of Energy. As one of only four entries not from the US, we look forward to witness the design-, building-, and operational phases of the cost- and energy-effective solar-powered house. The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 will for the first time be held at a new location - in Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. 4th George C. Marshall Visit To Austria Program, April 10 -24, 2012

Focusing on 'Smart Cities & Urban Technologies,' this year’s program will bring decision makers and experts from the US Administration, various federal and state-level agencies, Think Tanks and industry associations to Austria. The goal of the George C. Marshall Visit to Austria Program is to highlight Austrian innovations in industry and technology. The upcoming visit will conclude with a participation at the international conference Smart Cities Days Stadtlabor 2012 in Graz, Styria.

Austrian Science Talk 2012 on Sept 15 in Washington, DC

This year’s AST will take place on September 15, 2012 in Washington, DC. The conference will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about recent R&D policy developments in Austria, career and funding opportunities, and facilitates the establishment of research collaborations between North America and Austria. The conference also provides a platform for discussion, interaction and an ideal opportunity for networking. Further information will be posted in the near future.

Wittgenstein Lecture on 'Stem Cells and Cancer: A Deadly Alliance' with Dr. Knoblich

Juergen Knoblich On April 26, 2012 at 6:45 pm the Carnegie Institution for Science, the Austrian Science Fund FWF, and the OST co-hosted the Wittgenstein Lecture with Dr. Jürgen Knoblich, Wittgenstein Prize laureate 2009 and Senior Scientist and Deputy Scientific Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Knoblich has used a fruitfly to identify the cellular defects that turn normal stem cells into cancer-initiating cells. He explained the cancer stem cell hypothesis and its impact on treatment and also presented how research in fruitflies has solved some of the greatest puzzles in biology, leading to a better understanding of cancer.

The OST is the strategic interface in the sciences, research, and research policy between Austria and North America.
