bridges vol. 17, April 2008 / Noteworthy Information MIT SENSEable City Lab and Research Studio iSPACE are starting a collaboration in the area of GIScience, specifically in the following areas of applied research: creation of "sensible infrastructures," combination of live data sources, interoperability, process integration, real-time data integration, analysis of ecological phenomena integrating a socio-demographic viewpoint, integration and processing of diverse heterogeneous data sources, location-based services, and mobile applications. The SENSEable City Laboratory is a research initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that studies the urban impact of new technologies. The increasing deployment of sensors and hand-held electronics in recent years has led to a completely new approach to the study of the built environment, which also changes the way cities are described, designed, and understood.
