Marshall at Harvard University, Austria’s Federal Minister of Economics and Labor Martin Bartenstein and then-US Ambassador to Austria Susan McCaw officially declared the intention of their two governments to encourage mutual cooperation through an academic exchange program. This new program, called the Marshall Plan Scholarship, focuses particularly on universities of applied sciences and technology (Fachhochschulen und Technische Universitäten). The June 2007 declaration laid the groundwork for offering as many as 1,000 scholarships for American and Austrian students between 2008 and 2017. The program will be funded and administered by the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation.
