The Internship Program of the Office of Science & Technology is available to Austrian citizens only. Qualified applicants who are accepted as interns have the opportunity to expand their horizons in an international setting.

OST internships are unpaid. However, the OST can reimburse interns for housing expenses up to a maximum amount of $700 per month upon submission of appropriate invoices.

Alumni of the OST Internship Program consistently report that the work is demanding yet rewarding. During their internship, interns are treated as full-fledged members of the OST team, for example by participating in planning processes and taking on research projects. The program comprises of various responsibilities:

  • Network Management: participation in the development of an expansion strategy for the OST Scientist Network, our network of Austrian scientists and scholars in North America
  • bridges - The OST's Online Magazine on S&T Policy: researching and independently writing articles, using the Content Management system to create the actual publication, and organizing editorial meetings
  • Special Projects: independent work and completion of projects dealing with higher education, research, science and technology or science policy.
  • Collaboration with other team members with ongoing internal projects and administrative responsibilities as well as new projects

Internship Availability:
Starting in summer 2008 applications will be accepted for the following times:
April - June 2009
July - September 2009
October - December 2009
January - March 2010

The deadline for applications is September 30, 2008. Any applications received after this deadline can only be considered for the following terms.
 

Requirements for a successful application:

  • Austrian citizenship
  • Interest in science & technology and research & science policy
  • Student or graduate
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent written and oral fluency in the German and English languages
  • Willingness to be a team member, ability to adapt to changing circumstances and acceptance of administrative tasks and responsibilities

  1. CV / Résumé
  2. Letter of motivation in English
  3. Letter of motivation in German

Once an applicant is notified by the OST that s/he has been accepted as an intern, s/he is required to pass a background check conducted by the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs. This background check will be initiated by the OST. At this point in time, proof of valid health insurance for the length of the internship can also be directly submitted by the intern to the OST.
