In 2004, the industrialist and former minister of finance Dr. Hannes Androsch founded the Hannes Androsch Foundation at the Austrian Academy of Science (OEAW), a foundation that has placed particular emphasis on research projects on "labor and the strengthening of social balance and peace." The Hannes Androsch Foundation is the most important privately funded non-profit foundation established in Austria since 1945 with the exclusive purpose of supporting research in the social sciences. By 2010, the assets of the foundation are expected to increase to €10 million. In addition, the Hannes Androsch Prize is awarded for research in, or other contributions to, the social sciences.
