bridges vol. 13, April 2007 / News from the Network
The OST network of Austrian scientists & scholars abroad was established by the Office of Science & Technology (OST) at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC, and focuses on the outreach of government-related agencies to Austrian scientists in North America. Its main objective has been to support the scientific community with information and specific advice wherever necessary and requested. Encouraged by the OST, an independent association - ASciNA (Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America) - was founded in 2002 with local chapters being established all over the US and Canada. For further information about ASciNA please visit www.ascina.at. ASciNA Activities Words from the ASciNA President, Eva Schernhammer
Eva Schernhammer
For several months now ASciNA has enjoyed the services of a virtual office, supported by brainpower Austria, that helps us in the administration of our membership database among other things. ASciNA, which has been an association according to Austrian law since 2002, is also currently working on getting nonprofit status under US law. The ASciNA chapter Boston took over this task. Our Web site http://ascina.at is also going to be restructured in the coming months and will get a "new face" that aims to be more user-friendly and easy to navigate. And last but not least, I'd like to point out special events organized for ASciNA members: The first is a cultural highlight that will take place May 3, in New York City. The ASciNA chapters of New York and Boston will gather in the Big Apple, where we first will have a reception at the Austrian Consulate General, followed by an evening of Austrian classical music at the Austrian Cultural Institute. The second event is the ASciNA retreat in Chicago, May 11-13. All local chapters will be represented by their chapter heads, and I cordially invite all ASciNA members who would like to engage in our activities to join us for this retreat. More detailed information can soon be found of course on our Web site, http://ascina.at or simply e-mail me at president(at)ascina.at. Access to the full article is free, but requires you to register. Registration is simple and quick – all we need is your name and a valid e-mail address. We appreciate your interest in bridges. |
