Altbach is Monan Professor of Higher Education and director of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College. He is the author of Comparative Higher Education, co-editor of American Higher Education in the 21st Century, editor of The Decline of the Guru and other books. He has also been the editor of the Review of Higher Education. He has held fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and was the 2005-2006 Distinguished Scholar Leader of the Fulbright New Century Scholars program. Altbach holds a B. A., M. A. and a Ph.D degree from the University of Chicago. Contributions
