Joseph Jamar is currently working for the Human Resource and Mobility Directorate within the Directorate General for Research, where he is responsible for setting up the European network of mobility centers as well as the communication policy around the Marie Curie Actions.

As a Belgian and American national, he has strived throughout the years to improve transatlantic relations in his areas of responsibility. He worked for several years as Director of Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges. Joseph Jamar joined the European Commission in 1989, where he worked successively in the education,training, press and research departments.

Trained as a lawyer and a specialist in international relations.
