Shirley Ann Jackson is a woman of astonishing ‘firsts’. As the newly elected President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a function that Dr. Jackson took over from Mary Ellen Avery in February 2004, she is a pioneer not only among women in general but among African American women and minorities in particular.
