bridges vol. 10, June 2006 / Noteworthy Information Ear deformity in most cases is a purely aesthetic problem; nonetheless, it can be very disturbing. Children, especially, often suffer the adverse psychological effects of being teased or given nicknames by their peers, and thus are the most likely candidates for ear surgery or otoplasty. Although ear surgery is best planned before the socialization process, it can be performed at any age after the ears have reached full size, around five to six years of age. Complications are infrequent and usually minor; the real challenge is for the surgeon to create a natural instead of an "operated on" look.
