Josef Teichmann has been associate professor at the Vienna University of Technlogy since October 2002.


From June 2000 to July 2001 he had a Post-doc-position at the Institute of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics in Vienna with special interest in geometrical questions in Stochastic Analysis and Financial Mathematics. Teichmann has been associate professor at the Vienna University of Technology since October 2002. Since 2007, he has been working on the START project at TU Vienna with the budget of Euro 1.2 Millions for a research group since 2007.


Teichmann studied Physics and Mathematics at the University of Graz. He got his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna in May 1999 supervised by Peter Michor.

Robert Temel is an architecture and urbanism theorist based in Vienna. He was a member of the Program Committee of the scope II conference. Besides his work with uma, he has been chair of the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Architektur (ÖGFA, Austrian Architectural Society).


Among his recent publications are "Architekturpolitik in Europa," in: Österreichischer Baukulturreport 2006; and Temporary Urban Spaces and Concepts for the Use of City Spaces, Basel, 2006 (with Florian Haydn).

Walter Thirring

Walter Thirring is a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Vienna and the honorary president of the Erwin Schrödinger Institute.


He is a distinguished mathematical physicist and the inventor of the Thirring model in quantum field theory. He has served as a director at CERN and the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematical Physics. Previously Thirring held various positions at other leading institutes and universities such as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition he is the author of many papers and books in both quantum field theory and mathematical physics. He also established the Walter Thirring Prize which is awarded for exceptional achievements in modern fundamental theories and experiments.


Thirring holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Vienna (1949) and numerous awards such as the Erwin Schrödinger Prize, the Max Planck Medal, and the Henri Poincaré Prize.

Martin Tichy is currently in charge of the international marketing efforts of the Vienna Symphonic Library GmbH, an Austrian-based sample database and music software developer, as well as a marketing consultant for ILIO Entertainments, a Californian music software distributor.


Prior to the foundation of his own marketing agency in Vienna in 1997, Sound Communication, he worked as a product manager for Warner Music Austria and EMI Austria, as well as for Product Placement International, a promotion agency. Martin has given lectures at the Entrepreneurs College and the Institute for Advertising & Marketing Research at the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, Austria. He has worked as a music producer for major record companies and has performed in more than 500 live concerts playing the electric violin.


Tichy holds a Master’s degree from the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, Austria.

Josh Trapani joined the staff of the Bipartisan Policy Center in 2008.


Previously, he was an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow on the Policy Analysis staff within the Research & Development Deputy Area, U.S. Forest Service, where his work focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation. Prior to that, he was the American Geophysical Union's Congressional Fellow, working for Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on public lands, climate change, and other science issues. Trapani also holds a Research Collaborator position with the Department of Paleobiology at the Smithsonian Institution.


Trapani holds a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His research has taken him to sites throughout the United States as well as to Coahuila, Mexico and the Omo Valley of Ethiopia.

Martin Treberspurg is professor for sustainable constructions at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna and director of the architecture company Treberspurg & Partner Architekten ZT GesmbH.


He is honorary active as vice-head of the department of "building physics" of the Austrian Chamber of Architects and Engineers, head of the Environment Committee of the Austrian Chamber of Architects since 1992, Austrian delegate to the ACE (Architect's Council of Europe), and lecturer since 1993 at the Technical University of Vienna on "Solar Architecture." The main focus of his work is on energy saving constructions, solar energy use, domestic architecture, and ecology (Passive Houses). For his realized projects he was awarded the Sir Robert Matthew Award "For the Improvement of the Quality of Human Settlements" by the UIA (Union Internationale des Architectes). He is author of several books, e.g., Neues Bauen mit der Sonne concerning solar architecture and solar energy use.


Treberspurg graduated in architecture from the Technical University of Vienna.
