When Austria assumed the responsibilities of chairing the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2006, it took over business from the UK. During six months of what is commonly referred to as the "EU Presidency," Austria is chairing meetings of the Council of the EU and European Council, as well as most working groups and COREPER, the Committee of Permanent Representatives - Member States' Ambassadors to the European Union.

On January 4, just in time for Austria's Council Presidency of the EU, a new website - already carrying the new ".eu" top-level domain - appeared on the internet: CORDIS Austria, the Austrian EU Presidency R&D and Innovation Information Service (http://cordis.europa.eu.int/austria/home_en.html).

ERA-Link is a network of European researchers working in the United States (ERA in this case stands for European Researchers Abroad). It was launched at the beginning of 2005 to help our expatriate scientists and scholars connect with one another and stay in touch with the scientific community in Europe.
