Background

Foreign scientists and scholars pursuing a career in the United States sometimes have their careers impeded due to their foreign nationality. A requirement for a higher-level security clearance, or a disadvantageous tax situation, calls for an application for U.S. citizenship. In the cases where mother countries do not allow dual citizenship, researchers find themselves in a difficult, double-bind situation caught between career and patriotism.

The Advanced Measurement Laboratory: Designed to Be the World’s Best Print E-mail

Awards - Calls for Nominations: AAAS ISC, ISETT Print E-mail
AAAS ISC 2004
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is accepting submissions for the International Scientific Cooperation Award 2004. Past recipients include Mahabir P. Gupta from the University of Panama in 2003, L.S. Fletcher from Texas A&M University in 2002, and Günther Bauer from the Institutes for Semiconductor Physics at the University of Linz in Austria. The award, which is open to all nationalities, recognizes individuals who contribute significantly towards furthering international cooperation in science and engineering. Nominations must be submitted no later than August 1, 2004.

First Austrian Research Days - May 2004 Print E-mail
As part of "Science Week@Austria" the first Austrian Research Days were held between May 13-15, 2004 in Vienna. Top Austrian scientists, selected by the Austrian Academy of Science, the Austrian Science Fund, and the Austrian Society for the Advancement of Sciences participated in this event. Over the three days, numerous lectures were given in parallel sessions at Vienna’s prestigious Museum’s Quarter.
