The EURYI Awards – U.S. Researcher Brian O’Neill First Recipient to Come to Austria |

Second call in September 2004 for the 2005-Awards
The first call for proposals for the
European Young Investigator (EURYI) Awards is completed. Twenty-five
young researchers from around the globe will pursue their scientific
careers at European research institutions in the coming five years.
U.S. citizen Brian O’Neill will work at the Institute for Applied
Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg (close to Vienna) using his prize
worth close to €1 million to work on his successful proposal,
“Demography, uncertainty, and learning in integrated models of climate
change.” With Mr. O’Neill’s success, one scientist from North America
has already joined the European Research Area utilizing the EURYI
scheme.

mathematicians. The study is being conducted at the Institute of Applied Geography at the University of Vienna and seeks to identify differences and common
patterns.
