Kick-off for 2010: Guest Scientist program: Translational Brainpower
Apply by March 25, 2010 for the translational brainpower grants. As part of the translational research program funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, the program aims to integrate international scientists from all disciplines into basic research and applied research projects in Austria. Ernst Mach grant worldwide for 2010/11 – Apply by March 1, 2010!
The 1- to 9-month grant targets postgraduates and PhD holders (under 35 years) from all countries except Austria for the purposes of research and/or study carried out in Austria. Monthly grants range between EUR 940 and EUR 1,040. Further information on areas of study/research, on prerequisites, and on application procedures is available at http://www.grants.at.
Call for applications: Franz Werfel Grant for young university teachers of German language and Austrian literature
Apply by March 1, 2010 for the research grant targeted at researchers, postgraduates, PhD holders (under 35 years) from all countries except Austria. Franz Werfel grant-recipients will work as visiting researchers at Austrian university departments and carry out specialist studies in libraries, archives or at research institutions. Apply Now: Richard Plaschka Scholarship for Humanities and Theology, Historical Sciences, Linguistics and Literature Sciences
The 4- to 9-month scholarship is available to researchers, postgraduates, and PhD holders of all nationalities who are focusing their studies on the field of history concerning Austria-related topics. IWM Józef Tischner and Paul Celan Fellowships
The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, Austria, offers two Fellowships starting July 2010. The Józef Tischner Fellowship is open for a six-month term to Polish or Polish-American graduate students and recent graduates and is open to all academic disciplines in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Deadline for Application: February 28, 2010. The Paul Celan Fellowship will support translators’ conversions from Western European into Eastern European languages, and vice versa, or between two Eastern European languages. IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program 2010
The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), located in Laxenburg near Vienna, Austria, offers graduate students from around the world a Summer Fellowship in Natural and Social Sciences, Math, Policy and Engineering. The Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) will take place from June 1 to August 27, 2010. Deadline for Application: January 18, 2010. OST Scientist Network Event San Diego, February 20
On the occasion of this year’s annual AAAS Conference in San Diego, the OST and ASciNA are organizing a reception for Austrian scientists. After a workshop organized by the European Commission on European scientists in the US, where Peter Nagele will speak, a networking dinner will take place. ASciNA Awards Ceremony at the Embassy of Austria, Washington, DC
The ASciNA Awards 2009 were granted to Gerlinde Wernig (Young Scientist Award), Peter Winzer and Martin Hetzer (Junior PI Award) on November 12, 2009 by the Austrian Ambassador Christian Prosl in the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC. Prof. Gary Cohen, Director of the Center for Austrian Studies at the University of Minnesota, was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class. This year's Talk 'Under Crisis Conditions' took place on October 3, 2009 in New Orleans, LA. On October 1 and 2 the FFG organized a training program for researchers on how to successfully participate in the 7th EU Framework Program. The Austrian Science Talk brings together Austrian scientists and scholars in North America with a delegation of Austrian experts in Science, Research, and Technology Policy to discuss policy developments and new opportunities. The event provided an excellent opportunity for networking with fellow scientists.
